Looming Oil Crisis

In an article from the Guardian, Iran issues stark warning on oil price, Iran warned that any sanctions issued against it by the UN will result in "soaring oil prices."

Iran stepped up its defiance of international pressure over its nuclear programme yesterday by warning of soaring oil prices if it is subjected to economic sanctions. As diplomats from the US, Europe, Russia, and China prepared to meet today in London to discuss referring Tehran to the UN security council, Iran's economy minister, Davoud Danesh-Jafari, said the country's position as the world's fourth-largest oil producer meant such action would have grave consequences.

Will our politicians once again stick their collective heads in the sand and cave to the demented environmentalist groups, or will they, for once, strap on their cajones and authorize the drilling in ANWAR, as well as opening up domestic drilling and pave the way for building new refineries in this country?

It does not take much intelligence to see the handwriting on the wall regarding the great-granddaddy of all oil crisis looming on the horizon. Here in the US, we have more domestic oil just waiting to be drilled than what remains in the middle east. Active drilling operations spur the economy in out of the way towns and villages in our own country. Advances in the technology of drilling and the existing regulations for rehabilitation of the land following drilling have negated any "downside" of domestic drilling.

This is where common sense takes over. We have the oil. We have the manpower and the resources. Drilling will boost our already booming economy. Drilling, combined with building new refineries, will insulate this country from whatever happens with the Middle Eastern oil suppy. This is not rocket science, just common sense.

We must protect our country and our interests first. Our President is the most powerful man in the world, but he was elected to be our President and to put the US first in his list of priorities. My opinion is that the President has his priorities straight. It is also my opinion that I have no idea of the priorities of members of the House and Senate. Many of them seem to relish the idea of a failed economy. Can they be trusted to do the right thing? I have serious doubts as to the integrity of many members of Congress. It is easy for me to imagine them siding with their left-wing supporters to the detriment of our ecomony and national interest.

With the mid-term elections coming up, this would be a good time to put their feet to the fire, so to speak. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, but one thing for sure, when it is all said and done, the lines will be clearly drawn for all to see, as to which elected representatives put their country before their own political self-interest.

Update: Be sure to read today's and yesterday's posts at The Discerning Texan for an excellent international analysis of the current Iranian powderkeg.
